Loon Lake

Chestertown, NY - one of the oldest towns in the southern Adirondack Park, incorporated in 1799.  Early day economics were timber, but by the 1900's the Adirondacks became a tourist destination for visitors and remains one of the favorite for generations of families.

Chestertown boasts the National Christmas Tree.  Chestertown NY has an enchanting Christmas feel to it, so why not have the national Christmas Tree.

Once upon a time, Chestertown NY was known as "the Crossroads" because of its location between the Hudson River and Schroon River.  In the early days, the economy was timbering and natural resources, but by early 1900's, the Adirondacks became a tourist destination.  Chestertown's beautiful lakes (including Loon Lake) became a favorite for many.   In the prohibition era, Chestertown was a stop for the illegal route for alcohol trade.  Good folks are found in Chestertown and visitors return year after year.

At Birchwood Cottages, history repeats itself with returning visitors, as quoted by a visitor:

"This is the real Adirondack experience here at Birchwood.   The kids can run in the sand and I don't worry about the clean up.  The fire pit nights are a hoot with the family, and Loon Lake is gorgeous.  Yes, we toured around a bit, but everyone really didn't want to leave the cabins for long. We're going to start a new tradition here and return again.  Thanks, Jill."  Darleen
